Staten Island West Shore Expressway vs. I95 New Jersey Turnpike?

I am coming from Pennsylvania to JFK on Thanksgiving Eve and I would like the best way possible.
From I78 to I 287 do I
(1) Take the NJ Turnpike to Geothals Bridge and I 278 and Verrazano Narrow Bridge
(2) Take the Outerbridge crossing to Staten Island and the W Shore Expwy (440) to the VN Bridge
I am interested in tolls and traffic congestion

I have never drive through Brooklyn before. Is it difficult in rush hour?

  1. ajedrez says:

The Outerbridge Crossing will save you money, as you will avoid paying for a few additional exits on the NJ Turnpike. It is generally not too congested, except near the intrchange with the Staten Island Expressway (which is unavoidable).

Driving on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in Brooklyn used to be pretty bad during rush hour, but I think lately it has gotten better. I think they are doing rehab work on the BQE over 3rd Avenue, so there might be some delays around the between the 65th Street Exit and Prospect Expressway.

    I hope this was helpful.
